Introduction and impact assessment of a hotline to support cashew producers in Guinea-Bissau
Since 2020, the N'kalô Information Service was introduced, which sends voice messages with information about the cashew market. The objective of the study is to evaluate the impact of a direct line of contact between market analysts and focal points compared to the original N'kalô service; introduce market analysts and focal points to bring more significant gains to disadvantaged producers.
To achieve the objectives described above, an RCT was carried out to compare the effectiveness of introducing focal points versus recorded voice messages. The sample consisted of 187 villages divided between Treatment 1 (61 villages), Control (65 villages) and Treatment 2 (61 villages). Around 1,200 producers, 187 focal points were surveyed in person and by telephone between 2023 and 2024. In addition to surveys to measure the socioeconomic impact of treatments, the study included several economic and behavioral games during final data collection in 2024.
