Study: “Building a better future for the business environment in Guinea-Bissau – 2020
Building a Better Future for the Business Environment in Guinea-Bissau" (2020) was financed by UNDP. The objective was to analyze the historical bottlenecks faced by micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and the impact of the pandemic on the private sector; inform information that can be adopted to promote a more resilient and inclusive private sector; and reveal structural problems and provide recommendations to improve the resilience of the private sector to future shocks. between October 26th and December 3rd, 2020, with 363 face-to-face interviews and 38 telephone interviews.
The study provides a comprehensive view of the obstacles faced by MSMEs and the difficulties worsened by the pandemic. It presents recommendations to reshape ongoing interventions and suggests measures to improve the business environment, supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and promoting a sustainable private sector. It also seeks to better understand how to create a more favorable and resilient business environment, highlighting the need for policies that strengthen the social contract and create better employment opportunities in Guinea-Bissau.
